Lasik

Lasik is a very popular treatment available for the past two decades. Millions and millions of people had benefited and regained glass free vision. iLASIK is the first vision correction procedure to be 100% customised to the unique characteristics of each eye. iLASIK is the only laser eye surgery approved by NASA and trusted by all branches of the US military.

LASIK or Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis reshapes the cornea by using excimer laser beam thereby offers glass free vision. LASIK treatment can correct a wide range of optical aberrations like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and Higher Order Aberrations (small tiny aberrations in the cornea). It is simple, painless and outpatient procedure.

How Lasik done?

Lasik procedure consists of two steps. First making a thin hinged flap on the cornea, after lifting the flap Lasik procedure is performed on the bed of the flap. The corneal flap is repositioned after the completion of treatment. It takes 10-15 minutes for the both the eyes.

How do I know if I'm a candidate?

The ideal candidate is over 18 years of age with healthy eyes and stable vision. Patients with contact lens should remove the lens before check up.(Soft Lens – one week, Semi soft Lens – two weeks and hard Lens four weeks).

What are the pre Lasik investigations?

To ensure fitness for laser surgery the following basic investigations are to be performed:

* Complete eye exam

* Orbscan – Corneal Topography test – to evaluate the size, shape, elevation, curvature, thickness of the cornea measured

* Aberrometry – to measure aberrations, pupil size, pupil centre shift and iris recognition

* Measuring refractive power

* Retinal, Glaucoma evaluation, etc.,

* Tears status of the eye

What are the types of Lasik procedures available atRLLC?

Standard Lasik To correct refractive errors like short sight, Long sight and cylindrical Power. Epilasik Best laser vision correction from thin corneas and high myopia. Refractive error up to – 20 D can be be corrected.

Custom Epilasik Epilasik along with higher order aberration correction by ocular wave front based treatment.

Corneal Custom Lasik

Topo Linked

Patients with high astigmatism ,Post Lasik / Epilasik – decentered ablation and Post

Keratoplasty irregular astigmatism can be treated.

What is the post operative care?

Lasik surgery is very safe procedure and complications are rare. However certain precautions are required. Lasik patients can go home immediately after the procedure and regains vision after few hours. Patients can resume normal work after 24 hrs.

Eye drops should be applied as per the doctor's instruction. Follow up as per the doctor's advise.

What are the advantages of the Lasik?

o Very simple and successful procedure

o Patients can see without glasses or contact lens

o Freedom from glasses

o Better vision

 Greater predictability

 Better night vision

 Safe

 Rare glare and halos

 Less invasive procedure, etc.,

Lasik Overview

LASIK is an outpatient surgical procedure for the correction of refractive errors in the eye (Myopia, Hypermetropia and Astigmatism). Excimer laser is used to change the curvature of the corea to improve the ray of light to focus on the retina. Excimer laser is a cool laser i.e it does not generate heat in the cornea. The laser energy destroys the intermolecular bonds in the corneal tissue resulting in tissue removal.
