Blade Free Lasik

The is a 100% Blade-free technique to create the corneal flap. The creation of the corneal flap prepares the eye for the second step of the LASIK procedure where an excimer laser is used on the cornea to correct vision.

How does the Blade free Lasik work?

The Blade free Lasik Laser uses tiny rapid pulses of femtosecond Laser light to create thin corneal flap instead of using a mechanical blade. Each pulse of light passes through the top layers of the cornea and forms a microscopic bubbles at a specific depth and position within the eye that is determined by the doctor.

Just prior to applying eximer laser vision correction, the doctor lifts the corneal flap by gently separating the tissue where these bubbles have formed. The corneal flap is then folded back so that the eximer Laser Beam can be delivered on the bed of the flap to correct the power.

What is the difference between a corneal flap created with the Blade free Lasik and microkeratome?

The hand-held microkeratome instrument with a steel blade moves back and forth and creates a flap in the cornea. The bed of the flap may be comparitively less smoother than that of femtosecond flap.

The Blade free Lasik creates a precisely positioned layer of bubbles just beneath the surface of the eye, it produces smooth even surface after the flap is lifted. With the femtosecond, a blade never touches the eye – 100% Blade free.

Are there other benefits to using the Blade free lasik?

Better visual outcomes.

Ability to tailor the procedure to your eye.

Is the Blade free lasik painful?

Prior to creating the flap, the doctor will apply drops to numb the eye and then he will apply a special ring and an instrument that gently flattens your cornea in preparation for the femtosecond.

This part of the process is not painful and patients report feeling only slight pressure.

Is the Blade free lasik safe?

Yes. Millions of procedures have been performed safely and effectively using the femtosecond .

How long does it take to create a flap using the Blade free lasik ?

For creating the flap will takes only about 15 to 20 seconds per eye. Including preparation time, the entire LASIK procedure takes about 10 minutes.

Lasik Overview

LASIK is an outpatient surgical procedure for the correction of refractive errors in the eye (Myopia, Hypermetropia and Astigmatism). Excimer laser is used to change the curvature of the corea to improve the ray of light to focus on the retina. Excimer laser is a cool laser i.e it does not generate heat in the cornea. The laser energy destroys the intermolecular bonds in the corneal tissue resulting in tissue removal.
